Here at Twistgates Farm summer has arrived and the lanes are filled with frothy white cow parsley, foxgloves and honeysuckle, and the lush green fields of the gently rolling Blackdown Hills are dotted with grazing cows. Idyllic!

We felt our first foray into the world of blog writing should really be an introduction to us, and to Twistgates Farm, so here goes…

We are Suzanne and Duncan, and we moved to this fabulous part of the world in 2004 – we wanted a life style change and got out the map, pinned where our nearest and dearest lived and, as practically everyone was ‘left’ of London, we headed southwest. It’s been a lot of hard work but living here at Twistgates has
never disappointed and we have met some wonderful people through running our self-catering cottages. The Blackdown Hills, straddling the borders of Devon and Somerset are magical; you really do feel as though you have stepped into another, more relaxed, world and yet our location is only a mile from one of the main routes into the South West.

The three self-catering cottages (Garden Cottage, Meadow Cottage and Weathervane Cottage) needed a lot of TLC to get them to a standard that we would be happy to go and stay in and this meant ensuring comfortable and cosy living in all the rooms, spacious and practical kitchens, modern bathrooms and installing central heating so that the wood burning stoves were not the only reliable heating source. It was a tall order but we got there and the fact that many of our visitors return again and again gives us the incentive to continue upgrading and improving as a matter of course. Ten years on we built the Apple Loft – a very special, and rather romantic, apartment just for two, it’s constructed on the site of an old barn and blends in seamlessly with the other holiday cottages, and below it we added the Orchard guest suite that can be hired to provide an extra bedroom.

Most of all, we want our guests to feel as though they can ‘switch off’ from their daily lives. Very recently superfast broadband was installed so there is good WiFi if you need to keep in touch with your life back home, however we hope that once you have arrived and started your holiday with one of our delicious complimentary Devon cream teas you’ll want to sit back and relax and make the most of your holiday or
short break.

A huge variety of birds and wildlife, great walks from the doorstep, friendly local pubs, amazing sun sets, starlit skies at night … it’s all here and a wealth of attractions for all the family, beautiful gardens, National Trust properties and of course the Jurassic Coast are within very easy driving distance.

Whether you’re looking for a weekend away, or a main family holiday, Twistgate Farm could be the place for you. Click on the Book tab to check our availability or give Suzanne a call today on 01404 861173
