Surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the Blackdown Hills our location in East Devon is very peaceful but if it’s too quiet you can have a fun for all actioned packed holiday.

Here are a some suggestions, roughly grouped to make it easier to investigate a special interest.

And, don’t forget, the beaches along the Jurassic Coast are an easy drive from us .

If Sport is your thing

  • Fishing – Coarse fishing, fly fishing and – ideal for a day out – mackerel fishing are all on hand, and if you don’t catch something for supper we can tell you where you can buy the freshest fish possible.
  • Golf at Honiton, Cricket St Thomas and Taunton
  • Riding
  • Off Road biking – Haldon Forest where you can hire bikes and there are a range of routes for all abilities.
  • Hire a bike or boat from Saddles and Paddles based at Exeter Quay
  • Somerset County Cricket Club is based in Taunton, and for rugby head to Exeter and the Exeter Chiefs home ground.
  • Horse Racing fans will find courses at Taunton, Exeter, Newton Abbot and Wincanton.

Younger members of the family

  • Wildwood Devon – at nearby Escot, animals, a maze, zip wire
  • The Bear Trail (a very muddy assault course!)
  • Axe Valley Wildlife Park – birds and animals, play areas, picnic spots
  • The Donkey Sanctuary – free entry and home to many donkeys who didn’t have the best start in life
  • Pecorama – steam train ride, playgrounds, zip wire, picnic spots, model railway exhibition
  • Clip and Climb – the ultimate vertical playground, based near the Quay in Exeter
  • Honiton Pottery – pottery pieces ready to be painted or join a workshop

  • The Quarry at Beer  – man made complex of underground caverns, take a guided tour
  • Underground Passages in Exeter – medieval passages designed to bring fresh water into the city
  • Exeter Cathedral
  • Bicton Park – perfect for all generations, beautiful gardens, rural museum, indoor and outdoor play areas.
  • History – National Trust and  English Heritage have many properties and gardens in the area.
  • Honiton Museum- plenty of information about the lace and pottery industries that Honiton was renowned for.

On the Move

  • West Somerset Railway –  train ride between Bishops Lydead and Minehead. Themed events including Afternoon Tea train, Winter and Christmas events
  • Tram ride – tram runs between Seaton and Colyton. Perfect way to bird watch. Hop on and Off tickets available.
  • Tiverton Canal – horse drawn barge rides, boats for hire
